English IGCSE (Cambridge)
This course is for secondary aged children ready for GCSE level work and wanting some time to study regularly in a small, inclusive, in-person group setting. We will familiarise ourselves with the language, grammar and reading areas which the Cambridge board assesses and learn exam technique using past papers and an interesting variety of texts and games. During exam season I’m here to focus on keeping confidence high and pre-exam nerves low!
Students should be ready to learn how to debate, reach for meaning and appreciate the mechanics of English in all it's glory!
To stay on-track, homework is set every two weeks. The course includes mini-tests throughout along with two full mocks, which I return marked and with student feedback.
The course covers all you need to work through the content of the Cambridge specification International GCSE :
Comprehension study (implicit and explicit meanings; facts, attitudes and opinions in short - answer questions, evaluations and summary writing)
Powerful words and phrases (writing in response to imagery, employed devices, techniques and meanings)
Voice and audience (stepping into another’s shoes)
Persuasion (writing to convince and motivate)
The narrative (imaginative writing)
£41 per month
All materials provided but you will be responsible for booking their exams and your child will need to be able to complete homework at home.
