Enrolment for 2025/26 is now open
Tuesday 10:10am Online £26/month
This course is for secondary aged children ready for GCSE level work and wanting some time to study regularly in a small, inclusive, online group setting. We will familiarise ourselves with the language, grammar and reading areas which the Cambridge board assesses and learn exam technique using past papers and an interesting variety of texts and games.
Homework is set every two weeks and is strongly recommended in order to get the most out of this course. From February half term we revisit and revise the content of both papers and during exam season we focus on keeping confidence high and pre-exam nerves low.
Marked homework
A mock exam for both papers
Support in building a robust piece of imaginative writing for paper 2
1:1 drop-in time ring-fenced after class (11:10am-11:40am) available every week (for either parent or child!).
The content of the unseen texts are designed to be read by children aged 15-16 so you may wish to consider these factors when deciding if this course is right for your child. That said, it is generally acknowledged though that the Cambridge texts usually revolve around less sensitive subjects than Edexcel. The age at which a child is ready for studying English at this level differs from child to child. English does involve sustained effort and time for some students to practice writing at both speed and at length outside the classroom (especially if they are new to exams) and although I will always work with the students, meeting them where they are to support their needs, this course is no guarantee that your child will get the grade they want. Students should be ready to learn how to debate, reach for meaning and appreciate the mechanics of English in all it's glory!
A computer or laptop connected to the internet with zoom installed
A mic and a camera (though cameras can be off after the first session if wanted).
Access to a printer and scanner (or other way of taking photos of work and converting to PDFs).
